Horsense will provide individuals with a safe, educational, and meaningful activity using the horse and an adaptive environment to improve physical wellbeing and promote healthy life style choices.
Using the horse individuals will learn how to ride, care for, and manage a horse in an outdoor environment. The physical outcomes of these tasks improve upon participant's balance, coordination, as well as practicing fine and large motor skills. Emotionally the rider/ participant receive the benefits of learning the responsibility of caring for an animal, the environment, and how their actions directly affect the situation. The instructors and staff then have the opportunity to foster independence by teaching the rider/ participant educational and healthy ways to apply what they have learned into their life choices.
The program will provide a variety of activities to meet the needs of many individuals. Horsense will provide services to Veterans using a 5 step program to address the whole individual. Each participant will be evaluated and be included in setting their personal goals and objectives for the program. This enables the instructors and staff to design a tailor made program for each participant so that they may succeed in the program.
Additionally Horsense aspires to offer programming to individuals that are physically and/ or emotionally disabled with group riding lessons to emphasis on physical improvement and team building experiences to improve participant's quality of life.
The therapeutic riding program is conducted by, NARHA (North American Riding for the Handicapped Association) certified instructor, Jackie Hughes. For more information contact Jackie at, 520-709-6928 or e-mail us.
